  • Reactfula real-time website optimization platform, raised $1.4m from Phi Square Ventures, Nautilius, Shaked Ventures, and Inspiration Ventures.
  • CreditPlacean online marketplace for credit, raised $1.5m from private investors.
  • Sensiboan IoT solution for air conditioning, raised $2.6m led by Motus Ventures, with participation from Lool ventures, Kima ventures, and private investors.

 Series A Rounds

  • Cronusan automated penetration testing software solution, raised $3.5m from JANVEST and private investors.
  • Beyond Verbal, a company extracting emotion from voice to diagnose health problems, raised $3m in a round led by Kuang Chi GCI Fund, Singulariteam, VI Ventures, and private investors.
  • Revuze, a company using machine learning to improve product experiences for Fortune 500 companies raised $4m from Nielsen Innovate, with participation from NPD Group and TIC Group.
  • Sourcery, a next generation foodservice commerce platformraised $5m, led by Marker, with participation from Palantir Technologies and Steadfast.
  • Proov, a SaaS platform pioneering the PoC as a service model, raised $7m from Mangrove, OurCrowd, and private investors.

  • Optimove, a marketing automation platform, raised $20m from the IGP fund.
  • Tipalti, a white-labeled payment solution addressing the challenges of tax and regulatory variation across international borders, raised $14m led by SGVC with participation from Tank Hill Ventures, Wicklow Capital, and private angels.
  • Totangoa customer success management platform, raised $8m led by Benhamou Global Ventures, with participation from Pitango, Gemini, and others.
  • Agent Vi, a  video analytics platform providing search and business intelligence applications, raised $6m led by Kuang Chi GCI Fund and Motorola Solutions.
  • Applausea leading provider of QA tools to app developers, raised $35m led by Credit Suisse, with participation from Goldman Sachs, Accenture, Scale Venture Partners, and other investors.
  • Roboteam, a designer, developer, and manufacturer of unmanned defense robots, raised $50m from Crossroad and private investors.
  • CTERAa company providing an all-in-one solution for cloud  storage security, raised $25m led by Bessemer, with participation from Benchmark, Vintage, Cisco, and Venrock.
  • OTClaroty, a passive monitoring system that secures and optimizes OT networks, raised $32m led by Bessemer, with participation from ICV Partners, Innovation Endeavors, Marker, Red Dot Capital Partners, and Mitsui.
  • Datorama, a business intelligence solution for marketers, raised $32m led by Lightspeed with participation from Innovation Endeavors, Marker, and Cedar III.
  • Ormat Technologies, a provider of renewable power solutions converting heat into energy, raised $204m in a PIPE.
  • Celeno, a fabless semiconductor company developing components for high performance carrier-class Wi-Fi systems, raised $38m, led by Red Dot Capital Partners, with participation from Cisco, Greylock, OurCrowd, Pitango, and other private investors.

iAngels August Deal Digest – August Monthly Wrap Up

Greetings from Tel Aviv and welcome to another monthly wrap up! Apologies for the silence last week, merely a reflection of the silence of capital inflows, but I should have notified you all about the temporary hiatus. Some pretty exciting news this week in Israel, in particular Compass raised a $75m round vaulting the company to the unicorn level with a $1b valuation. Although exciting, this transaction pales in comparison to Uber’s $680m (reported) acquisition of Otto, the self-driving truck start-up co-founded by Lior Ron.

We saw a robust $415m invested in August with Software Applications leading the way (23%) and even distribution across Social Media & Advertising, Enterprise Solutions, Industrial Technologies, and Digital Health and Medical Technologies, alongside $775m in disclosed M&A (total M&A was higher). 

August 2016

August witnessed heavy acquisition activity, with nine companies acquired for more than $775m.

  • Shaker, a company creating online venues where people can host events of different kinds for just about any size of audience, from live-stream music events to networking events and conferences, was acquired by Playstudios, a casual game developer for social platforms, for an undisclosed sum.
  • ForClass, a cloud-based, fully integrative platform for content distribution, student assessment and classroom management, was acquired by Time to Know, a leader in digital education transformation, for an undisclosed sum.
  • SAIPSa provider of customized algorithmic solutions in the fields of computer vision and machine learning, was acquired by Ford, for an undisclosed sum.
  • Dojo Labs, a provider of consumer security and privacy solutions for all IoT devices in a connected home, was acquired by Bullguard, a UK antivurs maker for $500,000.
  • Otto, a company building technology that, in time, can automate parts of the drive on highways, was acquired by Uber, for a reported $680m in stock.
  • Meme Globala leading agency digital advertising solutions, was acquired by Somoto, a website for freeware and shareware developers with a straightforward and simple method to monetize, enhance and distribute their offerings, for $13m.
  • MassiveImpact, a leader in performance mobile advertising, was acquired by Gmobi, a Taiwanese mobile technology service provider, for a reported $15-$25m.
  • Pontisthe creator of the Marketing Delivery Platform (MDP) for Communication Service Providers, was acquired by Amdocs, for $95m.
  • MacroCurea biotechnology company focused on the development and commercialization of advanced cell therapy products, was acquired by Leap Therapeutics, for an undisclosed sum.

The past two weeks, another $139m was invested in Israeli start-ups.

Seed Rounds

  • Bigabid, an advertising technology company focused on mobile performance, raised $2m from Naftali Investments and private angels.
  • User1st, a system enabling businesses to improve website accessibility, raised $3m from 500 Startups, CSVP, and Shaked Ventures.
  • Revelator, a cloud-based provider of sales and marketing intelligence for independent music professionals, raised $2.5m from SeedIL, Digital Currency Group, and Exigent.

Series A Rounds

  • SkyGiraffe, an enterprise mobility platform, raised $6m from SGVC, Trilogy, 500 Startups, and various private investors.
  • IntSights, a cyber intelligence web platform, raised $7.5m led by Blumberg Capital, with participation from Glilot Capital, Blackstone, and Wipro Ventures.

Growth/Miscellaneous Rounds

  • Behalf, a payments platform targeting SMBsraised $27m led by Viola Growth with participation from Maverick Ventures, MissionOG, Sequoia Israel, and others.
  • Compassa tech-driven real estate platform putting technology at the fingertips of real estate agents, raised $75m led by Wellington Management with participation from Goldman Sachs, Founders Fund, Thrive Capital, and others.

  • Formlabsa company bringing professional-quality 3D printing to the masses, raised a $35m party round, led by Foundry Group, with participation from DFJ Growth, Innovation Endeavors, and more than 15 other investors.
  • Cloudyn, a multi-cloud monitoring and optimization service, extended its $11m seed round by $4m from India-based Infosys.

Growth/Miscellaneous Rounds

  • Kalturathe world’s first open source online video platform, raised $50m from Goldman Sachs.
  • Check-Cap, a clinical stage medical diagnostic company focused on innovative imaging, raised $5.9m in a PIPE.

  • Sedona Systems, a telecommunication technology optimizing the design of high-end networks, raised $13.6mm led by Intel Capital, with participation from Bessemer and Nexstar Partners.

Series B Rounds

  • Velostrataa software solution that optimizes cloud computing and storage, raised $17.5mm led by Intel with participation from Greylock and Norwest Venture Partners.

Growth/Miscellaneous Rounds

  • SteadyMed, a pharmaceutical company optimizing drug delivery, raised $32mm in a private placement, led by OrbiMed Israel, with participation from Deerfield, KB Partners, and Samson Venture Partners.
  • Ornim Medical, a medical device company focused on personalized treatment of tissue and cerebral blood flow, extended its Series C round of $25mm by an additional $20mm led by LongTec, with participation from OrbiMed, GE Ventures, and Fosun Pharma.

  • Coolan, an enterprise infrastructure mapping solution, was acquired by Salesforce, a leading in enterprise cloud computing, for an undisclosed sum.
  • Arilou, an automotive cyber security company, was acquired by NNG, a navigation solution provider, for $10mm.
  • Kifi, a business analytics platform helping employees increase productivity, was acquired by Google, for an undisclosed sum.
  • SalesPredict, a company applying predictive analytics to the sales process, was acquired by eBay for $40mm.
  • Sling Payments, a payment processor for micro-merchants, was acquired by Avante, a Brazilian micro-credit giant for an undisclosed sum.
  • RR Media, a company maximizing the potential of media and entertainment content, was acquired by SES, a world-leading satellite provider, for $242mm.
  • PNMsofta provider of Business Process Management solutions, was acquired by GenPact, a leader in business process operations, for an undisclosed sum.

This week in particular, another $98mm was invested in Israeli start-ups.

  • Powerlinxa B2B social network, raised $7mm led by France-based business information giant Altares D&B.
  • Safebreacha cybersecurity company focused on breach validation, raised $15mm from Sequoia, HP Tech Ventures, Deutsche Telekom, Maverick Ventures, and Shlomo Kramer.

Series B Rounds

  • SlateSciencea modular portfolio of educational apps for K-6, raised $45mm led by Australian entrepreneur Leon Kamenev.

  • RedKix, an email messaging solution still in beta, extended its $8mm Series A round by $9mm, from Salesforce, Wicklow Capital, and eight other private investors.

  • Cooladataa big data analytics company helping optimize customer management for enterprises, raised $5.6mm from Salesforce, TEEC Angel Fund, Greylock Israel, Carmel Ventures, and Wix Co-founder Allan Bloch.

  • Omeq Medical, a medical device system targeting epidural injection complications, raised $1mm from private investors.
  • Folloze, a content creation platform  for sellers and marketers, raised $1.4mm from Cervin Ventures, NEA, and TriplePoint Ventures.
  • Medi-Tate, a medical device company treating urethra and prostate disease, raised $4mm from private investors.
  • ViDac Pharma, a drug discovery company focused on cancer treatment, raised $9mm led by Israel Biotech Fund, with participation from private angels.
In June we saw Social Media and Advertising Technology, Enterprise Solutions, and Security and Safety Technologies account for 59% of total funding.

  • Maglan, a company developing offensive cyber simulation, vulnerability countermeasures, cyber forensics and malware defenses with a focus on threat intelligence, was acquired by Accenture, a leading global professional services company, for an undisclosed sum. 
  • Binpress, a marketplace for commercial and open-source projects, was sold for $1mm to CodersClan, a marketplace for atomic code tasks
  • Alvarian, a wireless infrastructure provider, was sold for $2mm to Supercom, a global leader of traditional and digital identity solutions.
  • Bio Clean Air, offers advanced solutions to polluted air and odors treatment, was sold for $3.6mm to GES, a global leader in design, construction, and operation for industrial water treatment.
  • Funtactix, an online game developer/publisher, was sold for $10mm to Playtech, a leading software provider for online gaming operators.
  • SteamRail, a video delivery platform for publishers, was sold for $15mm to Ironsource, a platform for software discovery, distribution, delivery, and monetization.
  • ETView, a high-resolution video imaging system for medical professionals, was sold for $16mm to Ambu, a Danish company that develops, products, and markets diagnostic and life-supporting equipment to hospitals and rescue services.
  • Optitex, a provider of 2D and 3D CAD/CAM and virtual prototyping solutions, was sold for $52.8mm to EFI, a digital imaging and print management solution for commercial and enterprise printing.
  • Cloudlock, the leading Cloud Access Security Broker and Cybersecurity-as-a-Service provider, was sold for $293mm to Cisco, a worldwide leader in networking for the internet.
  • MIS Implant, a global leader in developing and producing advanced solutions for implant dentistry, was sold for $375mm to Dentsply Sirona,  the world’s largest manufacturer of professional dental products and technologies.

Series A Rounds

  • NovellusDx, a life sciences company identifying tumor-specific driver mutations, extended its previous $15mm Series A by $2.5mm, with participation from Novartis, OrbiMed, Pontifax, Resperate, and private investors.
  • Colu, a bitcoin blockchain technology platform for developers and enterprises, raised $9.6mm from Aleph, Angelic Ventures, Bitcoin Opportunity, BoxGroup, Digital Currency Group, and Spark Capital.
  • Gong.io, a business analytics company using AI to analyze and derive insight from recorded audio, raised $6mm led by Norwest Venture Partners with participation from private angels.

Series B Rounds

  • Biz-Effective, a workforce performance management platform using enterprise gamification to achieve corporate objectives, raised $7mm  led by JVP, with participation from 2B Angels, CE Ventures, Adler Chomski, Shaked Ventures, and Verint.
  • LightCyber, a cybersecurity company producing actionable alerts for breached systems, raised $20mm led by ClalTech, with participation from Amplify Partners, Battery, Glilot Capital, and private angel investors.
  • AiRobotics, an end-to-end, fully automatic solution for collecting aerial data and generating industrial insights, raised $20mm led by Charles River Ventures with participation from BlueRun Ventures, and Waze founder Noam Bardin.

Growth/Miscellaneous Rounds

  • Zerto, a enterprise-grade solution protecting, recovering, and migrating cloud-based and virtualized applications, extended its $50mm Series D round by $20mm, led by Charles River Ventures with participation from Battery, ClalTech, Greylock, USVP, and others.
  • EzBob, an automated online lending platform for SMEs, raised $36mm in lending capital, from Honeycomb/Pollen Street Capital and Shawbrook Bank.
  • Interlude, an interactive music and video technology company, raised a $40mm round from Sony Pictures.

Key insight: Norwest Venture Partners (funded solely by Wells Fargo) announced five Israeli investments in June (WeKaIO, SundaySky, Talkspace, Gong.io, and Kwik)!

With another $158mm invested in 12companies this past week, June has already seen $346mm in deployed capital, bringing the total private high-tech investment since May 1st to $1.03b. Let’s unpack this week a bit.

  • Armeron, a cybersecurity company deploying isolation technology to web applications, raised $2mm from Glilot Capital Partners.

  • Nanit, a company bringing computer vision to baby monitors, raised $6.6m led by Upfront Ventures with participation from RRE, Jacobs-Technion-Cornell Insitute, and AME Cloud Ventures.

Series B Rounds

  • Nexar, an iPhone dashcam application enhancing safety through machine vision and sensor fusion algorithms, raised $10.5mm led by Mosaic Ventures, with participation from Slow Ventures, Jumpgate Technologies, and Aleph.
  • Elastifile, a primary storage solution for next-generation data centers, extended its Series B round with a $15mm raise from Cisco Investments.
  • Talkspace, an network of therapists accessible through a web and mobile application, raised $15mm led Norwest Venture Partners, Metamorphic Ventures, Softbank Capital, Spark Capital, and First Time Fund.

Growth Rounds

  • Lumus, a company commercializing optical imaging technology for wearable displays, raised $15mm from Shanda and Crystal-Optech.
  • EyeView, a programmatic, fraud-free personalized video advertising company, raised $21.5mm led by Qumra Capital, with participation from Innovation Endeavors, Lightspeed Ventures, Marker, Gemini, and Nauta Capital.
  • YotPo, a company maximizing the business potential of user generated content, raised a $22mm party round from 13 investors, led by Bessemer, with participation from Blumberg, Rhodium, Innovation Endeavors, 2B Angels, and others.
  • Meta, a company commercializing AR glasses that enable users to create an alternate 3D world, raised a $50mm party round from 18 investors, led by Horizons Ventures with participation from YCombinator, Zappos, Comcast, Lenovo, Timothy Draper, Tencent, reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and others.
